چکیده

Bean seed weight and shape are important traits of different market bean classes. One of the first associations found between a genetic marker and a quantitative trait was reported by Sax ( 1923) for the relationship between seed pigmentation {P gene) and seed weight in common bean. More recently three types of molecular markers have been used to study the genetics of seed weight in common bean including isozyme (Vallejos and Chase, 1991), RFLP (Koinange et al, 1996; Nodari, 1992) and seed protein markers (Koinange et al., 1996; Nodari, 1992). Isozyme markers have also been used to study the genetics of seed length and seed height by Vallejos and Chase (1991 ). These studies have contributed to our understanding of the genetics of seed size and shape and offer prospects for the use of molecular markers in the modification or maintenance of seed characteristics in bean breeding programs. In a molecular marker based analysis, Jung et al. ( 1997) detected RAPD markers associated with QTL for resistance to common bacterial bHght (CBB). Our objective was to identify QTL for seed weight, length, and height segregating in a recombinant inbred line (RIL) population derived from the common bean cross 'PC-50' (larger seed weight) x XAN-159 (smaller seed weight).

The genetics of domestication of the azuki bean (Vigna angularis).

Genetic differences between azuki bean (Vigna angularis var. angularis) and its presumed wild ancestor (V. angularis var. nipponensis) were resolved into QTL for traits associated with adaptation to their respective distinct habits. A genetic linkage map constructed using progenies from a cross between Japanese cultivated and wild azuki beans covers 92.8% of the standard azuki bean linkage map....

Quantitative Trait Loci Associated with Drought Tolerance in Common Bean

Drought stress is the major limitation of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) grown in subsistence farming systems worldwide. The objective of this study was to use single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers from the BARCBean6K_3 Beadchip to identify quantitative trait loci (QTL) associated with traits related to drought tolerance in common bean. An intergene pool recombinant inbred line (RIL...

Major Contribution of Flowering Time and Vegetative Growth to Plant Production in Common Bean As Deduced from a Comparative Genetic Mapping

Determinacy growth habit and accelerated flowering traits were selected during or after domestication in common bean. Both processes affect several presumed adaptive traits such as the rate of plant production. There is a close association between flowering initiation and vegetative growth; however, interactions among these two crucial developmental processes and their genetic bases remain unex...

QTL analysis for diamondback moth resistance in canola (Brassica napus L.)

Diamondback moth (DBM), Plutella xylostella L. is the most injurious defoliage insect pest of canola in Ardabil province of Iran. It occurs annually and causes damage in canola fields. This study was performed to identify QTLs controlling resistance to diamondback moth using SSR and RAPD markers. An F2:4 population of 180 families derived from crossing between cv. ‘SLMO46’ and cv. ‘Quantum’ wer...

Generation mean analysis for yield components in common bean. Nasim Akhshi1, Kianoush Cheghamirza2 &3, Farhad Nazarian-Firouzabadi1*, Hadi Ahmadi1

In order to choose an efficient breeding procedure, it is necessary to have knowledge of the genetic system controlling agronomically important traits. Common bean is one of the major legumes containing large amount of proteins and other valuable nutrients. The aim of this study was to determine genetic parameters for yield and yield components, using six generations (P1, P2, F1, F2, BC1, and B...
